Welcome to an exclusive interview with Mass Rift, the dynamic band behind the upcoming EP "Written in Stone." Dive into their world as they share insights on inspiration, sound evolution, collaborations, challenges, and future plans.
1. Congratulations
on your upcoming EP "Written in Stone"! Can you tell us about the
inspiration behind the title and the overall theme of the EP?
Thank You!
I appreciate your interest in Mass Rift's upcoming EP "Written in
Stone"! The title reflects the idea that some things in life are
unchangeable, solidified, and perhaps destined. The overall theme of the EP
revolves around introspection, grappling with personal struggles, and
ultimately finding resilience and strength in the face of adversity. Also a
writing in stone is something that will last.
2. How
would you describe the evolution of Mass Rift's sound since your previous
releases, and what can fans expect from this new EP?
In terms of
sound evolution, we've aimed to push boundaries and explore new sonic
territories while staying true to our core identity. Fans can expect a more
refined and mature sound with a heightened intensity compared to our previous
releases.
3. We
understand that the EP was mixed in Oldenburg's Tonmeiserei and mastered by
Robert Smith. How did these collaborations influence the final sound of the
tracks?
Collaborating
with Tonmeiserei in Oldenburg and having Robert Smith handle the mastering
process greatly influenced the final sound quality, bringing out the dynamics
and nuances in the tracks.
4. Could
you share some insights into the songwriting and production process for
"Written in Stone"?
Were there
any challenges or standout moments during the creation of the EP. The
songwriting and production process for "Written in Stone" involved a
lot of experimentation and refining ideas to capture the essence of each track.
Challenges inevitably arose in terms of our at times very different personal
taste, but overcoming them led to some standout moments of creative
breakthroughs.
5. Your
music has been described as a blend of 90s grunge with Nu Metal influences. How
do you navigate combining these different elements while maintaining a cohesive
sound?
Balancing
the blend of 90s grunge and Nu Metal influences while maintaining a cohesive
sound is a meticulous process of trial and error. It involves finding common
threads between the two genres and weaving them together seamlessly to create a
unique sonic tapestry.
6. The
EP is said to pay homage to the dying subculture at Hamburg's Sternbrücke. Can
you elaborate on how this theme is reflected in the lyrics and music of the
tracks?
The
homage to the dying subculture at Hamburg's Sternbrücke is reflected in the
EP's lyrics, which touch upon themes of urban decay, lost dreams, and the
struggle for survival. Musically, we incorporate elements of the subculture's
raw energy and rebellious spirit into our compositions. Also you can hear
ambient sounds of the streets around the Sternbrücke and it is visible on the
EP Cover.
7. As an
independently produced EP, what were some advantages and challenges you faced
during the recording and promotion of "Written in Stone"?
As an
independently produced EP, we had the freedom to explore our creativity without
external constraints, but it also meant shouldering the responsibilities of
recording, promoting, and distributing the music ourselves. Building a strong
online presence and leveraging social media platforms were crucial in reaching
our audience effectively.
8. Mass
Rift is known for your intense live performances. How do you translate that
energy and connection with the audience into your studio recordings?
Translating
the energy and connection from our live performances into studio recordings
involves capturing the raw emotion and intensity of our live shows while
maintaining the precision and clarity necessary for a polished recording. It
just takes time and practice.
9. Looking
ahead, what are your plans for the future? Are there any upcoming projects or
collaborations that fans can look forward to after the release of "Written
in Stone"?
Looking
ahead, we're excited to continue creating music, connecting with our fans, and
exploring new opportunities for growth and collaboration. We are playiing some
Festival ini Germany this summer and while specific projects and collaborations
are still in the works, we're committed to delivering more powerful and
authentic music experiences beyond "Written in Stone." Stay
tuned for updates!
