Explore the origins of The Slime, a band blending hardcore punk and horror themes. Learn about their evolution, challenges, diverse influences, and upcoming album.
1. Can
you share the origin story of The Slime? How did the band come together and
what inspired your unique sound?
Playing
together in the current iteration since 2019 with Jr. on guitar since 2021. Our
freaky minds and different tastes but shared obsession with hardcore influences
the sound.
2. Your
EP "Living on Borrowed Slime" received positive reviews. How has your
music evolved since then, especially with your upcoming single "Trapped On
Blood Island"?
Trying to
make different sounds and introduce different rhythms and tempos.
3. Your
music is often described as a fusion of hardcore punk and horror-inspired
themes. What draws you to these influences, and how do they manifest in your
songwriting and performances?
We love the
classic horror films and that's the inspiration for many lyrics and our art. We
watch these movies together and get psyched to jam new tunes.
4. The
Slime has toured extensively across Canada and played with legendary acts. What
have been some memorable moments or challenges during your tours and
performances?
We love all
the underground venues and meeting punks and freaks from all over.
5. Your
band members have diverse backgrounds. How does this diversity contribute to
the creative process and overall dynamic of The Slime?
Four
different life experiences and different musical backgrounds have blended
together for us. It keeps it interesting and helps us experiment. We're always
showing each other new music.
6. "Death
Champs," your 2021 single, showcased furious destruction and mayhem. Can
you share the inspiration behind this track and the creative process behind its
production?
The lyrics
were inspired by an old Conan the Barbarian story. Musically the song was
around in fragments for a while but what clicked was when we sped it up and got
our friend Billie Rogue to sing on the chorus.
7. What
can fans expect from your upcoming full album following the release of
"Trapped On Blood Island" single?
More blasts
of energy, hard hitting tempos that we haven't tried, different approach to the
production and some new fun samples.
8. As a
band that embraces both old-school hardcore and contemporary influences, how do
you navigate staying true to your roots while also experimenting with new
sounds and styles?
By
listening to as much music as possible and making what we like and what we hope
will get our audiences moving.
9. Your
music videos, such as "BLOOD" and "NUDE," are visually
captivating and align with your band's aesthetic. How important is visual
storytelling to The Slime's overall artistic vision?
Very
important, we love giving the opportunity to the artists and videographers and
photographers that we work to collaborate on our art.
10. Looking
ahead, what are your aspirations for The Slime in terms of musical growth,
touring, and connecting with your audience in 2024 and beyond?
Touring in
the US, Europe or anywhere else in the world and meeting some of our fans from
outside Canada!
