Echoes of Hate, a French metalcore band formed in 2020, channels their collective experiences into their debut album 'Negative Thoughts,' offering a powerful and introspective sound.
1.
Echoes of Hate was founded in 2020. How did your experiences in other bands
like Deadside and Over The Reason influence the creation of this new project?
3 of the
EoH members played together in Dead Side so already from a human point of view
it influenced the band. The desire to play together again after so many years
was the basie of the project’s creation. We are friends above all and making
music together one more time seemed inevitable.
2. Your
debut album 'Negative Thoughts' took over two years to complete. Can you walk
us through the creative process behind the album and the challenges you faced
during its production?
"Taking
the time to do things right" was the leitmotive when we started writing
the album. The fact that no concert was possible anyway because of the pandemic
has strengthened our decision. We started over and over again, constantly
looking for improvement and started talking about the project on networks only
once everything was written. So the challenges were many but only because it
was necessary for us to propose the best album possible.
3. The
album is described as a sincere and complete record. What themes or messages
are you exploring in 'Negative Thoughts,' and how do they reflect your personal
experiences?
The idea behind the lyrics of this album is that no matter what you go through, nothing is insurmountable. Very quickly I wanted to write about personal topics, things that I had always forbidden myself in the past. So this album is sincere at that level I think and those who will take the time to read the lyrics will surely be able to identify themselves. For me it was a real outlet and it is a pleasure to see these songs come alive during our shows.
To be
honest for me, mentioning influences is more about sharing names of bands that
we like more than anything else. Of course it must be felt in our music because
we listen to all these bands but we listen much more than that and not only in
metal so in fact I think that our music is much more than defined by the
metalcore or post hardcore genre only. Like all bands I think. So in the end
we're not so di-erent than the other bands. Just 5 friends trying to make music
and share it with others.
5.
'Negative Thoughts' is tailored for live performances. How important is the
live experience to Echoes of Hate, and what can fans expect from your shows?
All of that
is made for live performance. We write stu-, we record song because we can
after that play them in front of people. We love that more than anything and we
do that for this. So if you come at our shows that’s exactly what you can see.
5 guys who play songs about depression in a big party haha.
6. The
album is available for free streaming on Bandcamp. What motivated you to make
your debut album so accessible to listeners, and how has the response been so
far?
I think
that the things have changed about that. You buy a cd or a vinyl to help a band
that you love and to love a band, you need to know him. And we're french you
know. Everything here is complicated for the metal genre. So yeah you can find
our cd for free on bandcamp on a lot of streaming plateforms but that's ok.
What is really important for us is to grow up the band step by step, have more
people at our show and share our music. The response is very good by the way. The
people who listened to our music liked it, and don't hesitate to share it and
that's very cool. Not a lot of people for the moment but everything come with
time.
7. As a
band that focuses on total autoproduction, what are the advantages and challenges
of being in complete control of your music production?
When we
started to think about all the options that we had for the record of this
album, it seemed to us that spending a lot of money in a studio or finding a
label wasn’t the right way for a new band. I mean maybe we have some things to
prove before that. I'm not sure that we do that for the next record but for
this one it seemed to be the best option. So main challenges are the time that
we spent and the main advantage is the money that we save. For exemple we had
the opportunity to made videoclips with the money that we saved and I think
that's the right things to do for a new band who try to grow up.
8. You
mentioned that each member exceeded their limits to create 'Negative Thoughts.'
How did the collaboration process work within the band, and what were some key
moments of growth?
Due to the
pandemic each members had to compose at home. So every ri-s, patterns or melody
has been changed so many times to improve it. Like I said before "Taking
the time to do things right" so for the vocals for example for certain
songs I have maybe 20 version of a chorus. And each members said to me if they
liked it or not so sometimes I have this chorus that I loved which is finally
not so good for the rest of the band. So yeah we've all exceeded our limits for
this record.
9. With
'Negative Thoughts' now released, what are your plans for promoting the album?
Do you have any upcoming tours or live events scheduled?
We have
some live events sheduled right now and others incoming for 2024 or 2025. We
want to to defend this album on stage in every way possible. In France or
another country. We have some things arriving but if you read this interview
and you are a promoter don't hesitate to contact us.
10.
Looking ahead, what’s next for Echoes of Hate? Are you already working on new material,
or are there any other projects in the pipeline?
Yeah we
have started to compose new stu-. We don't know yet if it's the beggining of
our second album, maybe some stu- for a special edition of our debut album, or
just a single. We'll see. We have other plans too to continue to defend this
one with a new video clip and some other things that we can't talk about right
now. We planned so many projects, I think that you are not finished hearing
about us. :)
