Rublood's latest single "Till Death" delves into themes of personal identity, love, and change. In this interview, they discuss their creative process, influences, and vision for the future.
1. Congratulations
on the release of your upcoming single "Till Death"! Could you share
with us the story behind the track and what inspired its themes of personal
identity and balance in relationships?
Thank you very much. Till Death reflects an exaggerated concentration of past
emotional experiences. All those experiences that as a boy images are forever
and in the end end at the first difficulty because without experience it is
difficult to rationalize the core feeling of our life that is love.
2. "Till Death" explores the idea that change should only bring
positive results. How do you relate this message to your own experiences, both
as individuals and as bands?
Change is natural. Most of the time it’s painful. People, in general, do not
understand that you have to feel good about yourself before you can start a
life with your partner. And this is also true for a band. Experience can help
us understand our previous mistakes and to perceive how we really want to live.
3. Rublood’s sound has been compared to bands like Deathstars, Rammstein and
Marilyn Manson. How do you mix these influences with your own unique style to
create something different within the industrial and gothic metal scene?
I’m flattered by it. I’ve always loved the sound these bands give me.
Although I was born in Italy, I do not conform to the music of my country. Here
our genre is not so easy to assimilate to those who listen to rock and metal. I
try to combine electronics and instruments with my voice, taking inspiration
from my mood and that’s how Rublood songs are born.
4. The track uses heavy, industrial sounds to convey its intense emotional message. Can you describe how the production process shaped the atmosphere of "Till Death"?
It all started with a light outline of synth, bass, drums and guitar. I listened to the whole again and sketched out the vocal metric. After re-recording guitar, bass and drums previously improved by the band members I recorded the voice and the song was ready.
5. How was the writing and recording process for "Till Death"? Has the song evolved a lot from its initial concept to the final product we hear today?
They went together. The writing was very simple. We also used our trusted producer Mark Raptor to greatly improve the quality of the song from a production and mastering point of view. We are as always happy with the final result.
6. As a band, you focus on the idea that true love should lift rather than carry a burden. How do you think this message resonates with your listeners, especially in the context of the current cultural climate?
Not only should love lift us up. The true sense of friendship and education between human beings should catalyze common thought. Society should be free of hatred and jealousy. Culture in Italy goes hand in hand with everything that is thrown at us on TV. Music too, unfortunately, follows the country’s rampant illiteracy. We are a country that does not know its own language... let alone English. We try to say our with our lyrics going against the grain and trying to emerge in a bad music scene where if you don't know venue owners or organizers.
7. Ruben, your vocal and keyboard work plays a crucial role in defining the sound of Rublood. How did you deal with your vocal performance on "Till Death" and how do the keys add intensity to the track?
I tried to change the tables by giving more space to the melody even though
there is always a screamy part in my lyrics. I then tried to give more emphasis
to my voice by fully identifying with what I wanted to express and it was easy
to represent during the recording. The recording was made easier by the skill
as a producer of Marzio Francone, knowing my potential, encouraged and advised
me on the most aggressive passages.
8. Can you
tell us more about the visual concept behind the artwork for "Till
Death," created by Gianni Caldararo? How is the work connect to the themes
of the song?
Gianni has recreated listening to our ideas the right image for the new single.
We think he did a great job creating something modern and fitting in the
historical context. We find an excellent connection between music and artwork.
A really striking gothic and contemporary something. We want to keep this
collaboration for a long time.
9. Your lineup
features a variety of talents from across instruments. How does the band
collaborate creatively to bring a cohesive vision to your music?
Rhythms and riffs are a
big chunk of this music. Without our powerful and martial guitars parts my
music could not take off. Most importantly what gives to our Industrial metal a
sense of modenity are our metalcore drums parts and heavy breakdowns studied
mostly by our drummer. Then the voice that ranges between clean, screamo and
scratched allows the songs to be not always be discounted.
10. How do you think the sound of Rublood evolved from your previous work to "Till Death"? Are there any significant changes in your approach or direction?
We have matured from a compositional point of view. Now we know exactly what we want to achieve when we write the songs. Our musical direction, however, does not change. Our music is first within us and therefore it is impossible to deviate from our sound.
11. What can
we expect from Rublood in the near future? Do you have a full album, tour or
other upcoming projects planned?
Lots of new stuff. We are about to go to the studio and record the songs that
will give life to our new album. We want to play both in Italy and abroad to
make our sound known and appreciated everywhere. We are also looking for a
label and management that will enhance our product and help us take flight.
