In this interview, LÝSIS discusses their latest single "Rotten Delusion," blending Gothenburg Sound with symphonic metalcore, the powerful vocal performance by Isabell Hag, their zombie-themed music video, and future plans.
1.
Congratulations on the release of “Rotten Delusion”! Can you tell us a bit
about the inspiration behind this track and how it came together?
The song is
written by our guitarist Philip and comes from a breakdown that was meant to be
for another song but didn't make it. But he liked it and used it to develop a
full song and it turned out awesome!
2. The
track blends the Gothenburg Sound with elements of symphonic metalcore. How did
you arrive at this unique combination, and what was your vision for the sound
of “Rotten Delusion”?
When LÝSIS
first started, we were more of a melodic death metal band with heavy inspirations
from the Gothenburg Sound. But over the years we have experimented and try to
infuse different elements to the melting pot and have resulted in our sound.
For Rotten
Delusion we aimed to make the heaviest track we have done, which I can safely
say we accomplished.
3.
Isabell Hag’s vocals are incredibly powerful and haunting. What was the vocal approach
for this song, and did you face any challenges in perfecting it?
For the
vocals iknow Isabell wanted to bring her heaviest delivery she has done. But also
try to make it dynamic.
4. The
zombie-themed music video is the perfect Halloween treat! How did the concept for
the video come about, and what was the process like in bringing it to life?
We were
discussing how we really could emphasize the message of the song with a music
video. And it being zombie themed seems like the perfect vessel. And we are lucky
that we know Daniel from Heavy Groove Media that we know can deliver. He was
the one that knew the make up artist Neta. FX makeup is hard, and if not done right
it can turn out really cheesy. But we hade full confidence in Neta, and oh man did
she deliver!
5. What
is the message behind “Rotten Delusion”? Are there any particular themes or emotions
you wanted listeners to experience?
The topics
and themes is a nihilistic world view. How the world is corrupted and have we
contribute to it, sometimes unknowingly.
6. LÝSIS
is gaining a lot of attention as one of Sweden’s most promising unsigned metal
acts. How has your journey been so far, and what have been some of the most rewarding
moments?
It has had
its up and downs. We have a hard time finding dedicated members, being from a
small town makes it difficult to find members that can play this type of music.
But now we
have finally found all members and are ready to take on the world. One of our
highlights has to be our show at SkogsRårocken. A place we have never been, but
a lot of the people in the audience could sing a long with our songs and knew
the lyrics. Which felt kinda crazy, haha!
7. The
symphonic layers add a distinct, almost cinematic feel to your music. How do you
incorporate orchestration into your songwriting process, and who in the band takes
charge of that?
The
orchestration is something our producer Isak really has helped us develop. We have
always had synths and orchestral elements, but Isak has really helped us taking
it to the next level.
8. Your
music has been compared to bands like Spiritbox, Arch Enemy, and Jinjer. How do
these influences shape your music, and what do you hope to bring to the genre that’s
uniquely LÝSIS?
I believe
all the elements that we combine into our melting pot helps to set us apart. The
melodic death metal elements, metalcore, symphonic and the variety that Isabell
can bring with her voice.
9.
Halloween seems like a perfect release date for this track! Are there any
traditions or inspirations around the holiday that resonate with the band?
I believe
we all love halloween in the band. But I am going to admit one thing, there is
one that is afraid of horror movies, haha!
10.
Looking ahead, what can fans expect from LÝSIS? Are there any upcoming
releases, live shows, or other exciting plans on the horizon?
We are
having a show in Stockholm on november 16th at Patricia with two other bands.
Tryin Within and Orecus. Kickass bands! And more music will come, maybe sooner
then later ...
