Krushya, a longstanding force in the Greek metal scene, dives deep into societal manipulation, rebellion, and raw power with their latest single Unholy Trinity and upcoming album Doominion.
1. "Unholy
Trinity" is an intense track with a strong social message. Could you elaborate on the concept behind the
'three methods of human social manipulation' that inspired this single?
Greetings
to you and the readers! The method of manipulating the public has been known
for years in many ways and forms.
Initially,
it was more anthropocentric, using "false leaders" as saviors so that
the world would side with them, and as the years passed, they adapted it accordingly
until our days. We do not believe in any way that only we and no one else know
this fact, we simply have the ability to emphasize and incite through our
music.
The
"game" is simple and you "play" on a global scale, with
many "players" even ourselves. The propaganda that surrounds us, from
governments with their political puppets, their corrupt media and of course the
biggest thorn called religion, have turned man into a helpless, modern slave.
The corruption and deception that we all experience have become a habid for the
common people, and this is a terrible mistake that most of us make by accepting
and tolerating it. All these crazy games by crazy rulers-tyrants must end
someday and for this to happen, we must all as "players" cooperate and
show them our true power and strength. We are millions, they are simply a
twisted gang that's slowly dying, making a lot of noise. What flourishes
declines, and we will be here when that happens. Now it's our turn.
2. Your
new album Doominion is highly anticipated. What can fans expect from this record in terms
of sound and themes compared to your previous work, such as Dogma?
We are glad
to hear this! Doominion will essentially be the sequel to Dogma. The story goes
like this:
A new
wretched Dogma has now been established in the new world, built on fresh ruins,
under the rule of a non-emotional anthropomorphic, being.
A story that is not far from reality, but on
the contrary is at the gates, if we all continue to pray instead of act...
The themes
are various with each track having its own theme, very close to what we are
experiencing today, but also to what we will experience in the near future.
The sound
of "Doominion" is expected to be different, as it will contain more
death/grind elements with a different musical and vocal approach, from all our
previous works but always in our own, characteristic way.
3. How
did Krzysztof Klingbein’s collaboration on the drums for "Unholy
Trinity" influence the song's overall energy and style?
Krzysztof
is a great guy, with a lot of passion for what he does and he does it
perfectly.
I remember
when I first saw him playing drums in a video in his early days on social
media, I immediately sent him a message to collaborate, which eventually
happened with Unholy Trinity.
We can say with certainty that he left his mark playfully and raised the bar,, in a collaboration that he wouldn't have escaped, hahaha...
4. You
recorded, mixed, and mastered the single at Flowers in Concrete Studio. How has
this studio environment shaped the production of your music?
Flowers in
Concrete Studio is the best studio in Patras city that specializes in this kind
of sound.
Apostolis
(owner and producer), who is also our drummer, has been in the scene for over 2
and a half decades and together we took our first musical steps.
He knows
very well what he's doing and he does it with zeal and enthusiasm us a
professional producer he is, we've never had any issues with his work, since
our musical tastes are identical. A very well-equipped studio that can handle
any job!
He is a
"multi-instrument" who plays more than 5 instruments and not only,
since he has also dabbled in electronic music too.
Krushya and
Flowers in Concrete Studio have become synonymous with each other, as we
produce all of our albums strictly and exclusively there in recent years.
5. The
visualizer for "Unholy Trinity" is striking. Could you share more about the creative
process with Rafaela Misiri and how the artwork reflects the song's themes?
With
Rafaela Misiri, we are also companions in life, we collaborated again as we had
done on ‘Dogma’ album in order to capture as realistically as possible what the
"Unholy Trinity" song describes.
his wasn't as easy as it sounds and it took us
quite a while to settle on a final image that we both agreed on.
This is how
we ended up with this particular cover, which is clear about the theme and the
title of the song.
The good
thing is that we prefer covers that have symbolisms and in which everyone can
distinguish various mystical symbols that clearly haven't been included there
by chance.
Whoever knows, knows!
6. Krushya
has been active since 2000, experiencing various lineup changes and evolutions
in sound. What drives the band's longevity and creative vision after more than
two decades?
Krushya was
formed in the early 2000s and as teenagers with a lot of appetite and time, we
immediately started working on our own songs, which we very quickly wrote and
included in our first demo, which was officially released in 2002 as a self-financed
production.
We consider
ourselves very lucky that at that time and with the means at our disposal we
managed to release a very decent demo album, which was released all over the
world with great acclaim and reviews from domestic and foreign media.
We started
by playing thrash metal/thrashcore with some death metal elements, an old
school playing, having influences such us: Sepultura, Slayer, Death, Machine
Head, Napalm Death, Deicide, Vomitory, Obituary, elements that the listener can
distigush even now with a different approach.
The lineup
was always a problem for the band since the core was always consisted by three
players, a problem that not only we had
but also other bands, even now in our days when the genre has changed and the
playing is more technical mature and difficult.
All these
problems that we face as a band, but also the situations that we all
experience, contribute to the longevity of this band with stubbornness and
against all those who want us to stop, with our heads bowed. (Sorry
motherfuckers but we will continue our work till it's done.) Hahaha...
7. The
Greek metal scene has a rich and unique identity. How has being based in Patra
influenced Krushya’s sound and the way you approach your music?
All the
Greek bands that have written history in the metal scene internationally did so
very early on and not in any province.
You will
rarely see a well-known Greek band from a province, especially now that there
are countless bands worldwide and they are all very good players.
The way we
approach our music would be the same wherever we were, with the difference
being in another country we would have more opportunities, especially for bands
that have contributed to the scene but are known by few compared to the
well-known giants and the companies that manage them.
This has of
course affected us negatively, but it is not the only obstacle we encountered
as a band, we have learned to overcome the obstacles and continue for those who
know us and support us with passion, either way, we are all over the internet
and we live in an era of information.
We do
everything in our power so that more and more people can learn about us and
identify with us.
8. As a
band combining thrash, death, and grindcore elements, how do you balance these
genres while maintaining Krushya's signature style?
I think
this is due to the fact that the creator (Vagellis), musically and
compositionally, has always been the same all these years and of course, on top
of each initial creation, we then collectively build each song, plus each one
putting their ideas and elements into it.
This is the
way we have always worked, for the best possible result.
Another
important element is that again Vagellis is the same person behind the vocals
for all these years, with the result that the order of the lyrics and how they
are placed in each song in different ways is now a trademark.
9. Your
live performances, such as at the Metal Blast Festival, are known for their
energy. How do you translate the intensity of your studio recordings into your
live shows?
The Metal
Blast Festival idea came up after the collaborations we had in Dogma album.
It was a
very solid festival with free entrance for all and the support from the people
of Patras was amazing!
To be able
to achieve the closest sound in live shows to that on your recorded album
requires tremendous practice and study.
We are
lucky to have the equipment and everything necessary to do this, which of
course requires, as we said, rehearsals by the entire band, but also individual
study by each player.
When we go
out on stage, we let it flow with the participation of the audience and for
those who have known us since our beginning to sing with us. Personally, I
think people enjoy seeing us live and hearing our evolution over the years of
our existence as a band.
10. Looking
back at your discography, from Ashta to Dogma and now Doominion, how do you see
Krushya's musical evolution over the years?
As we said,
we started playing thrash/thrascore since 25 years ago we all had different
musical tastes than now.
But we were
always experimenting with our sound. After our first demo release in 2002, the
next one was "Ashta" in 2005.
"Ashta"
album had a very low tuning compared to the Demo which was in standard tuning
and we recorded it during a very strange and transitional period for each of us
personally.
‘Dogma’ album until now is our most mature
album, also with a different tuning but also with character and style, an album
that has a lot to tell you since it was created in 2021, that is, during the
tyrannical quarantine that we all lived through.
With this
album and all the participants, we declared and showed our opposition to all
this miserable game of the government puppets,we created something
collectively, mentally and physically healthy. Proof that you don't take these
guys seriously.
The
"Doominion" album will be the highlight that will perhaps will
establish the style of Krushya, we got a taste of it with "Unholy
Trinity" single.
11. Finally,
what message or emotion do you hope listeners take away from "Unholy
Trinity" and the upcoming album Doominion?
The message
is simple and well known we are just need a little more time. We hope that the
rage that the song possesses will be passed on to the listeners.
Every verse
in the song is the reality we live in. This is not an imagination. If we want
the best for our children and our fellow human beings, then we will have to
fight.
History has
taught us that All tyrannical regimes have fallen and are falling, only with
revolution and blood out at the streets.
DISOBEDIENCE
and punishment to the tyrants, justice and equality between people. Be
sceptical. Be logical.
Stay metal.
Horns up.
Thank you
for this amazing inteview!
