Misanthropik Torment delivers raw, unfiltered extreme metal, fueled by DIY principles and unyielding honesty. We discuss their journey, unique vision, and unwavering commitment to exposing societal flaws through music.
1. Misanthropik
Torment was built on DIY principles and a raw, unfiltered vision. Can you share
what inspired you to take this independent route and how it shaped the band’s
identity?
Misanthropik
Torment was created to rebel to the fullest extent. I wanted this project to
have absolute freedom to create what I felt was a necessity to create.
Obviously the subject matter for Misanthropik Torment is one that 90% of the
industry is afraid of so it had to be a DIY project and an uphill battle all
the way. I do not mind the adversity; it lets me know that I have hit my mark.
I would say that the people who like this project are the ones who shaped our
identity. The people who listen are the ones who let us know that we are not
alone in how we feel and how we perceive the state of our world. As long as
there are people out there without a voice Misanthropik Torment will continue
to be that voice.
2. Rejecting traditional music labels is a bold
move in today's industry. What challenges have you faced as a completely
independent project, and how have you overcome them?
You are
very correct. It is a bold move indeed however my goals are not the same as
others who are in music so I do not necessarily need labels considering that I
run my own label I own all the publishing I do all the promo etc. So it is not
that much of a challenge considering that I do this for a living, so I have the
time it takes to put all the right promo in. However the one challenge that I
have had is how the art is received or how many people I can reach alone. I
have found that if I keep plugging away eventually I am going to reach the
right person. Being a creator is all about reaching as many people as possible
that can be difficult to do all on your own so once again I say it is the
people who listen to the music and share our music with others that helps us
overcome these obstacles.
3. Your
sound blends various extreme metal genres into something uniquely your own.
Which artists or bands, if any, have influenced your music, and how do you make
these influences your own?
I have a
lot of different influences such as Deicide Six Feet Under Death Lamb Of God
Left To The Wolves and so many more. My goal was to take elements from each and
make it as raw and unpolished as possible but still make it sound good and see
if I could make something worth a fuck. It seems to work. I like it, others
like it. What more can I ask for?
4. Your
music delves into dark themes like misanthropy and societal flaws. How do you
approach writing lyrics that reflect these themes while connecting with
listeners on a visceral level?
When
writing lyrics it is not really that difficult to rage about the state of our
world. I know there are people enraged about the fact that billionaire CEOs are
living luxurious lives while denying people life saving medical treatment. I
know that families are enraged by the fact that after January 20th mass
deportations will happen and families are going to be ripped apart. I also know
that millions of people are sick and tired of being lied to and all we want is
to exist without fear of nuclear warfare. The music is a vehicle for a bigger
message. The world is fucked and I make music for people who understand how
fucked up shit really is.
5. From
production to marketing, you handle everything in-house. Can you walk us
through your creative process and what a typical day in the life of
Misanthropik Torment looks like?
A day in
the life of Misanthropik Torment is actually pretty boring once all the
production is completed on a song or the album I listen to it a few different
times on a few different sound systems so I can get a feel of what may or may
not need to be done to the song or album. Once everything is complete it's time
to get it ready for release both digitally and physically. I upload all digital
files to the Earache Records Digital website. Once that is complete time to get
CD and Vinyl production going etc. Once all that is finished, time to start the
emailing of contacts to see who may or may not be interested in the album. The
promo is an all day every day job that does not pay you. But I love what I do
and I get shit done! There is a lot that goes into this.
6. The
description of The Leviathan as an emotional paradox is
captivating. Can you tell us more about the concept behind the album and what
listeners can expect from this journey through agony?
This is
actually my first album that describes a traumatic childhood. However I would
rather speak about the upcoming album M.A.G.A. As I observe the current
state of our world, it becomes increasingly clear to me that we are
collectively spiraling into chaos. From the rampant lies that permeate our
societies to the pervasive cheating and thievery that seem to define our
interactions, trust has become a rare commodity. Yet, we make the conscious
choice to appoint leaders who, by virtue of their positions, should embody
integrity and set a commendable example. Instead, we find ourselves ruled by
individuals who behave not as statesmen but as temperamental children, throwing
tantrums when circumstances don't align with their desires. The alarming truth
is that their reckless behavior wields the potential to wield catastrophic
consequences, as they possess the power to unleash destruction on a grand
scale.
In light of this urgent reality, I believe it is imperative that we reassess
our leadership structure. The political systems in place across the globe are
failing us, teetering on the edge of moral bankruptcy and systemic collapse.
The time has come for us to envision an entirely new framework—one that
prioritizes accountability, transparency, and genuine service to humanity. If
we aspire to create a world where our children can thrive, we must collectively
rally together to dismantle the corrupt regimes that lead us toward oblivion.
It is only through this decisive action that we can reclaim our agency and forge
a future worth fighting for."
7. How
does your hands-on approach influence your relationship with fans, and what has
been the most memorable feedback or interaction you’ve received?
I do not
call the people who listen to my music fans I call the family brothers and
sisters of Metal. Those people we talk almost daily. We keep each other as sane
as we can be in this insane world.
8. Your
music started as an experiment and evolved into a distinctive signature sound.
How do you see Misanthropik Torment's sound evolving in the future?
Misanthropik
Torment will continue to push the boundaries of extreme metal as long as there
are those who want what we have to offer.
9. Your
lyrics often critique societal flaws and human despair. What specific messages
or issues are you trying to address, and how do you hope your audience
responds?
What I
would like to convey to the world is Everything is broken and no one is right.
We need to rethink and reshape our world for a better future. As far as how
people respond However they respond is cool. I like authenticity.
10. You’ve
invited listeners to “enjoy your agony.” What does that mean for you
personally, and how does it reflect your journey as an artist?
"ENJOY MY AGONY" means enjoy the music. If you like the music you are in fact enjoying my agony.
11. In
such a crowded extreme metal scene, how do you ensure Misanthropik Torment
stands out while
staying true to your vision?
Misanthropik
Torment does not have to try. We are real, we are raw and we pull no punches.
Real people like real people and real art. Even more so they respect it.
12. What’s
next for Misanthropik Torment? Are there new projects, collaborations, or tours
on the horizon that fans should be excited about?
We just
take this one album at a time and go from there.
