Saints Among Us are redefining modern rock with raw emotion, cinematic soundscapes, and powerful themes. We dive into their journey, creative process, and the impact of their anthemic track, "Hunger."
1. “Hunger"
is such a powerful track—can you tell us about the inspiration behind it and
the message you wanted to convey with the song?
“Hunger” draws on the concept of kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken
pottery with gold, which we used as a metaphor for resilience and growth.
Lyrically, it’s about that craving for something more - whether it’s success,
connection, or self improvement and the struggle to mend what feels broken in
yourself along the way. We wanted listeners to feel empowered and understood,
as if they’re not alone in that pursuit.
2. Your music blends massive riffs with captivating synth lines and raw
emotion. How did you arrive at this unique sound, and what influences have
shaped your style?
It’s been a natural evolution. Each of us brings something different to the
table: Adam drives the rhythm with his love for heavy drums, while Brad and Tom
lean into dynamic riffs and spacey tones. Rahmaal’s basslines ground
everything, and I (Maddy) pull inspiration from both ethereal and emotive vocal
styles. We’re influenced by bands like BMTH, Sleep Token, and CHVRCHES - that
mix of heaviness and melody - but we also experiment with electronic elements,
creating something that feels both raw and cinematic.
3. Mental health is a significant theme in your lyrics. Why is this topic
important to the band, and how do you hope your music resonates with listeners
facing mental health challenges?
Mental health has touched all of us, either personally or through the
people we care about. For me, music has always been a lifeline - a way to
process emotions and feel less alone. We want our songs to be a safe space for
anyone who feels overwhelmed or unseen. If even one listener feels heard or
finds strength through our music, then we’ve done something meaningful.
4. You’ve described "Hunger" as one of your biggest sounds yet, layering influences from artists like BMTH, Sleep Token, and Kenya Grace. Can you walk us through the creative process for this track?
“Hunger” actually started with a vocal note I sent to Brad - I had this melody in my head and knew it had potential. From there, we started crafting the song in my old flat, piecing together the core elements. It’s been a working progress ever since, growing with us as we layered the riffs, synths, and the driving rhythm. We wanted to push ourselves creatively and bring in those big, cinematic influences while staying true to the raw emotion at its heart.
5. The band has been together for six years. How has your dynamic as a group evolved over that time, and what has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
When we first started, we had no idea we’d be where we are now. It’s taken time to gain the confidence to figure out what we want to do and what music we want to make. Over the years, we’ve grown into a family, understanding each other’s strengths, weaknesses, and quirks, which makes songwriting and performing second nature. The biggest lesson has been not pushing too much to the point where things become unenjoyable. Music is an outlet for all of us to express ourselves and our emotions, and how are you supposed to do that if it’s forced? With “Hunger,” it feels like we’ve finally allowed ourselves to create something that’s honest and enjoyable, which has been incredibly rewarding.
6. You’ve shared stages with some fantastic bands like As December Falls and Bang Bang Romeo. What have been some of the most memorable moments from your live shows so far?
I think our most memorable show of the year has to be our single release show for “Hunger” at Sidney and Matilda. The energy in the room was electric; fans were screaming back the lyrics, and it felt like everything we’d worked for clicked into place. Moments like that remind us why we do this.
7. As a band that’s gaining momentum, what challenges have you faced in breaking through the music industry, and how have you overcome them?
Breaking into the music industry has been challenging, especially finding our unique sound in a crowded space. It took time to discover what feels authentic, and Hunger marks a turning point for us. Financial and logistical demands have also been tough, but we’ve learned to adapt and stay resourceful. Most importantly, we’ve realised the value of not forcing things/music should be meaningful, not just a product. Staying true to ourselves and supported by our fans keeps us moving forward.
8. With 2025 poised to be a breakout year, can you give us a glimpse of what’s next for Saints Among Us? Any upcoming releases or tour dates fans should mark on their calendars?
2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Saints Among Us. We’re kicking things off with a gig in London on January 31 at Life of Spice Soho, and on February 6, we’ll be supporting Skarlett Riot and Phoenix Lake at Corporation in Sheffield. We’re also planning more shows throughout the year, including festival appearances, such as the Novacaine Festival on October 4. As for new music, we’ve been working on some fresh material and hope to release more throughout the year, so keep an eye out! It’s going to be a big year, and we can’t wait to share it with you.
9. For fans who are discovering your music for the first time, what do you hope they take away from listening to Saints Among Us?
For new listeners, we hope our music resonates with them on a personal level. Whether it’s the raw emotion in the lyrics, the energy in the instrumentation, or the themes of perseverance and self-discovery, we want our songs to feel like a safe space where they can find connection and meaning. At the end of the day, if our music makes someone feel seen or inspires them in some way, that’s the biggest takeaway we could hope for.”
10. Finally, if you could collaborate with any artist or band in the world, who would it be and why?
If we could collaborate with any artist, it would have to be Spiritbox. Their ability to convey raw emotion and create such atmospheric, powerful music is incredibly inspiring to us. Working with them would be a dream come true and an amazing opportunity to create something truly unique and impactful.
