Shaven Primates Unleash Raw Energy with New EP Chasing the Dragon
Oxford-based dark-wave, art-rock, and proto/post-punk band
Shaven Primates are back with a striking new EP, Chasing the Dragon.
Known for pushing the boundaries of genre and channeling raw emotion through
their music, the four-piece outfit has crafted a gritty, high-energy collection
of songs centered around the theme of "desire."
Building upon their previous releases—Birds Aren’t Real, which explored alternative thinking, and Child of Dirt, which delved into childhood trauma and addiction—Chasing the Dragon takes a direct and visceral approach. With deep, rumbling basslines, wailing guitars, and dynamic synths, the band draws inspiration from icons like The Velvet Underground, Kate Bush, Tool, and David Bowie while maintaining a sound that is distinctly their own.
The EP features standout tracks such as Airwaves,
which critiques the obsession with success at the expense of human connection,
and I’ll Quit Tomorrow, a haunting reflection on addiction’s cyclical
grip. Babooshka, a modernized tribute to Kate Bush, reimagines the song
with gender-swapped vocals and powerful drum fills.
With Chasing the Dragon, Shaven Primates reaffirm
their place as fearless innovators in the alternative music scene.
